Safari tanks and IMS/ Acerbis tanks When your tank gets low in fuel (particularly on smooth roads) the fuel pressure in the tank is too low to get good fuel flow to the carby. A quick tip to get to the servo is to pressurize the tank (blow in it) via the tank cap breather. A one way breather (VSM part# PRO-FTV) will help a bit but on rough roads. Warning, remember unleaded fuel vapour will KILL you!! You have been warned! |
Some cheap tips for your DR650. On a long or dusty ride airfilter maintance is important, you can generally get a few extra days with the following tip. Take a dish washing "Chux" and lightly damp it with air filter fluid, carefully tuck this around the DR's filter, throw it in the bin at days end, the filter will be still OK and you won't have disturbed the seal! |
Check your DR's choke cable, the top near your left thumb is a possible source of moisture entry. Periodically lightly spray a pentetrating oil in to the cable and work it, wipe off the excess so not to attract dust. |
To remove the throttle side grip on the DR for fitting Grip Heaters or new grips. Use electrical tape to firmly secure the complete throttle tube to an old set of handle bars. Carefully remove the bulk of the old grip with a stanley knife, then carefully use the wire wheel on a bench grinder to clean off the remainder of the grip. Be extremeley careful in both operations. VSM suggests just buy a new throttle tube at $22-00. |
